What is an ideal relationship?
I just finished watching called "Ki and Ka" where the male protagonist plays a house husband who stays at home and cooks/cleans while the female lead is the bread winner. The movie was made wonderfully and it got me thinking as to what is an ideal relationship these days? I mean gone are the days when traditional arranged marriages work, that is for sure! And it is good that they are slowly failing and the trend is changing because usually what we had were dysfunctional marriages where husbands dominated their wives and the women had to put up with stuff because they really did not have a choice.
Women have become stronger and now we stand at a point where men and women are absolutely bang-on equivalent. So how do we "fly" an airplane called marriage when both the husband and the wife are the "pilots"? What about an open-marriage? What about a live-in relationship with someone and choose not to be married but have children? What about children that grow up in dysfunctional marriages versus children that grow up with a single parent? Given our society is so narrow minded and insists on intruding into everything, how would a single parent manage really?
Questions like these will only be answered with time. I truly think that the generation born in the 80's has been screwed. We are neither the generation born in the 90's that are okay with things like live-in relationships and open-marriages nor we are like the 70's when the husband was treated like king and wives just have to put up with stuff; We never found our medium; Some of us might have but most of us like me are still clueless, heart-broken/separated and searching for what might be our medium!
